hamster tips and care

hey guys..meet my new friend,Chipsmore!

Noted that,I don't have lots of experience about hamster and FYI Chipsmore is the first hamster I learned to take care of. And btw, I'm not the owner. Also, because of this was my very first time, the information I shared was also from the internet and youtube..but don't worry, they are all tips from an experienced hamster zookeeper.😜
So,without further ado, let's squirrel down to our main topic today, which is btw hamster tips and care.

First thing first, what type of hamster are yours?
Mainly there are 5 types of hamsters which are Chinese hamster,Syrian hamster, Roborovski hamster, Winter White Russian Dwarf hamster, and Campbell Russian Dwarf hamster.
You can simply search that on google image and find out more about the features.

Syrian hamster, they are solitary meaning that you cannot put two hamster in one cage..just like the fighting fish. And if you do so,they may fight to death. But,despite of all that, they are very lovely, and easy to tame. So,it was a good choice for beginners. Syrian Hamsters are the biggest species of all hamsters so you might find out that they will need a bigger cage, bigger size wheel, and so on.

Next is Chinese hamster. The obvious features is that they look just like a mouse with that pointy nose and long tail. They commonly have stripe on it's back and the colour is not vibrant. They are very fast, very active,so they might not be suitable for kids. So if your hamster is Chinese hamster, the must toy for them are the wheels and the hamster ball. They also loves digging.

Roborovski is the cutest of all. It looks like a bun in your hand, very small, round, and short.

Among all, only Syrian are solitary..but just make sure you prepare a spare cage nearby in case if there is a fight between your hamsters.

Secondly is their diet.
You can feed hamster on fruit like apple but never to grapes or citrus. Noted that, fruit is only as supplement. And make sure they are fresh cut in cubes form.
Feed them with dry foods, sunflower seeds for it's fur,and many others that you can find easily on online store or pet shop nearby.

Third is their cage.
An ideal cage is including the size and the accessories.
The cage must be the right size for your hamster,I mean yes,it must be big.Well as big as you can.
Must have lots of space for it own, space for playing, sleeping, and feeding. Remember, the bigger the space of the cage, the happier the hamster.
If the space is small, add on levels. Do not connect too many tubes (more tubes than it space.)
You can choose to DIY your cage or buy it on pet shop nearby. But I prefer DIY as it have more space and easier to clean. You can use the IKEA detolf ,an aquarium tank or storage bins.
For the accessories, make sure you have the appropriate stuff like the exercise wheel, the chewing stuff, the bedding, the water bottle, the feeder bowl.
Talking about the exercise wheel, avoid buying those with metals, instead, choose plastic.
Because metals can cause several injuries to your hamster. Make sure to buy the smooth one so that it can operate easily. The bedding must be the suitable one which is made of aspen,do not buy the one with cedar or pine, and the softer the better. In Malaysia, you can buy the Chipsi brand. That's a good one and it's available in many scents such as classic, citrus, strawberry, and apple.

Fourth, the hygiene.
Use bedding on the cage floor,it helps absorb the moist and keep your cage dry and comfortable. It also prevent the unpleasant smell and provide heat to keep your hamster warm. And don't forget to change the bedding.
You can bath your hamster using the hamster bathing sand or powder. But actually hamsters are not supposed to take a bath. They actually know how to clean them self just like cat.
Clean the water bottle and provide with fresh water,do not use tap water.
Trim the nails if it way too sharp.
And for the teeth, this is based on 'WikiHow'..to ensure their teeth clean is by choosing the right food.
Something soft can easily stuck between the teeth, instead, feed them with the mix food like the pellet.
Then, avoid kissing them on the mouth,do you know that you can pass bacteria through that?
Hmm..oh yeah,I'm not sure if hamsters have toothbrush.

I think that's all for now, and I hope this tips and care really helps you.
Bye bye 😘
